The Latchkeys
Yeeaahhh! You Are Beautiful site and upcoming show.
You Are Beautiful is a simple, powerful statement which is incorporated into the over absorption of mass media and lifestyles that are wrapped in consumer culture.
This statement and the context in which someone finds it gives meaning to its message and purpose to this project.
The intention behind this project is to reach beyond ourselves as individuals to make a difference by creating moments of positive self realization in those who happen across the statement: You Are Beautiful .
Intention is the most important aspect of the You Are Beautiful project in its idea of purity. Graffiti and street art are an act not a style, but stylistically large corporations have been copying and using the 'urban decay' look to sell products.
It all comes down to intention. Nothing is sacred. Everything that has a perceived value becomes commodified. Companies hire out teenagers to slap up stickers and posters, and pay their fines when they are caught by the police. This is not street art, but a marketing campaign.
The reasons why street artists are doing what they are doing, in the way that they are doing, is not simply to question their surroundings; but to provide alternative perspectives, meanings, or values to those of consumerism.
Advertising elicits a response to buy, where this project elicits a response to do something. The attempt with You Are Beautiful is to create activism instead of consumerism.
You Are Beautiful uses the medium of advertising and commercialization to spread a positive message.
Projects like these make a difference in the world by catching us in the midst of daily life and creating moments of positive self realization.

Stone's Throw 10 Year Anniversary
Quas and Doom Dunks, Guitar Center exclusive anniversary album, and Chrome Children/DangerDoom/AdultSwim? What happened to underground hip-hop? Can no one make it on their own? Rhymesayers seems to be the only ones left in the game doing it all themselves (I know, I know, Doom and Rhymesayers corporate collaborate often, plus Epitaph)... But, Fifth Element is still the home base for RSE Worldwide and they still live normal lives without having to floss every gimmick offer they get. Take pride in your roots and build on them. Right after I'm done pumping all these new "One Time Only's" I'm gonna stop being a hypocrite...
Of course as soon as I post this a Atmosphere dunk is gonna surface... I'll post it I guess.

Pugs and Grae pics coming soon...
Two of the pictured artists above have commissioned some HZ customs. Pugslee recently rocked his to rave reviews while opening for Rakim at the House of Blues Chicago. Check his profile on Audio 8 to cop an album or read up on Chicago's most under-rated MC. Pictures of both sets of kicks will be posted on holyzapatos.com soon... And GreenWeedz, we already have a set that would be perfect for you. Shout at us if you some how you run into the site, I lost your number.

Teri Hatcher
Low and behold peoples of Chicago. Long have I sought to make my first post. So alas, it is today that I step to the plate with support from my good friends at handjob. I offer you the lovely, the talented, the ever-increasingly gangly and frail: Teri Hatcher and her tape worms. Go on over to Handjob for details on how to get one of these puppies.

Lupe's Best Yet...
Lupe's New Video... This is some serious heat from Chi-Town's newest, "cool kid approved" hip-hop ambassador. Lupe's also being generating so muchhype, and general good sentiment that folks blindly back him up. It's refreshing to see some one inspire this cynical urban culture again. Now I just wish we could get back to the basics. Lupe's videos kind of embody this generation's skateboarders and creative types progression in one fell swoop.
From blindly cruising around everyday for the love of skating, travel, and a creative viewpoint only articulated by wandering the streets with your board --->
To the stylized responsibilities of a job in a place overflowing with all the accoutrement of our newly labeled "street culture." I think the progression in Lupe's videos portrays the culture of northwest Chicago perfectly over the last few years...
I also think it's endemic of the country's culture/attitude (why is Lupe blowing up?). Check the videos above yourself, see what I mean.
Why is this my first time seeing this?
Glen E. Freidman is a legend and a bastard for having this stupid an amount of VintageSkateboardAppreciation.
Just think of the sheer amount of skate history that could have been preserved if all the money I/you/kids spend on dumb shit like Nikes and skate fads went to old boards and memorabilia?
Now our generations skate history is gonna veer off down our newly crowned consumer orgy highway.

Jay Z x Kofi Annan x MTV = Making politics hip again...
I've never been a huge Jay Z fan, but this makes up for any previous qualms I have had. When was the last time you could remember any major recording artist, especially a "rap mogul," physically dedicate themselves to anything other than profits. The man has my respect and... I hope... lots of other people's attention.

This is why I love The Hundreds. For the realism they give us, and the culture we share with them all. Damn the pigs and the police state, even when you have all permits and legal rights to be doing what your doing, ya heard!

Ar-Se-Nalll!!!! We're coming for the premiership this year.
New Stadium (RIP Highbury), better team, new sponsors, and Thierry mothafuckin Henry. I've lived and breathed Gunners life since I was 10 years old and only now can see why American sports have never held the same appeal for me. The picture above links to the wide variety of services provided by the club from insurance to greeting cards. You live for your team in football and they show you reciprocal love. When was the last time one of these narcissistic, multi-millionaire retards from the NFL, NBA, MLB, or any other American sport actually did something for their fans that wasn't either public image posturing or completely product driven? Not that Arsenal, Man U(world's largest sports franchise and owner of Yankees franchising rights), and Chelsea don't rake it in... but no American fans could ever even conceive of the electricity of a Tottenham vs. Arsenal match (or the ensuing wars fought in the streets and tube stations). They get the kids involved (Junior Gunners) and they had/have bleachers that a working man can afford to bring his kids to consistently. Here, we have soccer-moms and hockey dads that ruin their kids lives, and... Generally make the rest of us want to gauge their eyes out and strain them through the grill of their new Audi station wagon for having to listen to their ignorant rants about competition and "that local sports team" they now piss-all about. When I lived near Highbury, you had two basic daily needs, food and football. I don't see why life has to be so fucking complex now. I'll miss you Highbury, go Gunners.
